En route to school, Dave decides to phone all his friends; starting with Eliot. Obviously, in reality, we did not have mobile phones in 1997. However, this story, as stated on page six, is merely Dave’s imaginative reconstruction of his past, hence the anachronistic technology. It also explains why all the vehicles depicted will look like they are from the 1940s! The world he “remembers” will be a charming mix of ultra-modern technology and old fashion retro styles.
